A regular at my chair in Phoenix said my fades looked 'rushed' on the sides
He pointed it out about three months ago, and it hit me hard because I thought I was being efficient. He said, 'Finley, the top is perfect, but the sides look like you're trying to beat a timer.' I realized I was using my cordless clipper on a guard and just going up and down too fast, not letting the blade do the work. Now, I slow way down for that first open guard pass, almost like I'm sketching the shape in before I detail it. I count to three on each section. The difference in how clean the blend starts is night and day. Has anyone else had a client call them out on a specific part of their speed that actually helped?

Ever think speed was everything? That advice totally flipped my view on doing a good job.

Counting to three on each section" sounds like a game changer, how'd you land on that exact timing?

Actually I'm not sure counting to three is that universal. I've found that some sections just click with me right away and others need way more time (like five or six counts) to really process. It feels a bit rigid to put a hard number on it when the material itself is what should dictate the pace. For me it's more about feeling when I've actually absorbed the content rather than hitting some arbitrary timer.
