Saw a guy in Portland growing kale in old milk crates on his fire escape, now I'm rethinking my whole setup
I was in Portland visiting my sister two weeks ago and the apartment across from hers had maybe 8 milk crates zip tied to the fire escape railing, all full of kale and Swiss chard. The plants looked better than anything I've grown in my fancy self watering pots on my balcony, and now I'm wondering if I've been overcomplicating this whole thing. Has anyone here tried growing in crates or buckets instead of real planters, and did you have to drill drainage holes in the bottom?
