Peppers turned purple and dropped every flower, what did I do wrong?

I've been growing habaneros on my 4x6 balcony in Chicago for about 2 months, and suddenly last week the new leaves went all purple-black and every flower fell off within 3 days. I checked the soil and it's not waterlogged, but I did move them to a south-facing corner that gets hammered by direct sun from noon to 6pm. Could this be sun stress or a phosphorus problem, and has anyone else seen this happen after switching spots?
