Warning: my buttercream used to taste like sweet crayons until I quit the grocery store stuff
For about 5 years I made every birthday cake with shortening based frosting from the store, and it always left that weird waxy coat on my tongue that nobody ever said out loud. When my niece asked for a lemon cake in 2019 I finally switched to an Italian meringue with real butter and the difference was night and day. Does anyone else still keep a tub of the old stuff around for the cakes that have to sit out at a summer picnic, and how do you keep it from melting?
