That 1999 article saying we'd all have robot butlers by 2010 cost me $40

I found this old magazine from 1999 predicting robot butlers by 2010 and it got me thinking about how I wasted $40 on a Roomba 550 back in 2008 because I thought it was the beginning of that. That thing got stuck under my couch in Pittsburgh every single day and couldn't even handle a spilled bag of flour. I still laugh at those predictions every time I manually scrub my own toilet.

Oh man, that's still $40 you could've spent on a decent mop and bucket instead. I remember seeing those same exact articles and thinking we'd all be living like the Jetsons by now. Instead we got Roombas that get stuck on a single sock and can't handle a rug with any kind of fringe. The whole thing feels like a scam looking back... we were all so gullible believing that future tech would actually work right.

At least your Roomba wasn't hacking your bank account like a real butler might.
