Spent 2 hours organizing bookmarks by hand in 2019, then found out browsers already had folders
I used to keep every research link in a giant text file on my desktop, one URL per line, and it hit around 400 entries by 2019. I just pulled up that old file last week and laughed at myself, since I now just use the bookmark bar with named folders and never open the text file at all. The funny part is old articles from like 2005 said bookmarks would die by 2012 because of tags and social saving, and here I am 15 years later using plain folders like it's nothing. I also remember a blog post claiming RSS would replace browsing completely by 2010, and I still check 4 feeds daily so maybe that one half happened. My old text file is a mess of dead links to Geocities pages and forums that shut down. What's the dumbest manual system you kept running way too long before switching to something built in?
