Showerthought: That 1999 article saying DVDs would never catch up to VHS rentals
I was digging through old tech mags and found a 1999 prediction that said DVDs were a niche fad because people liked rewinding tapes. I grabbed a DVD off my shelf to watch later and realized that article was off by about 20 years. Anybody else find old predictions that make you laugh?

Maybe it's just me but I was totally one of those people who thought DVDs were a gimmick at first. I remember telling a friend that rewinding tapes was part of the movie experience, like a little break to grab snacks. Then I actually used a DVD player and saw how quick it was to skip to a scene or not have that fuzzy tracking issue, and it really changed my mind. Those old predictions are so funny now because everyone has a stack of DVDs or blu-rays somewhere.

@uma_reed26 I remember my dad spending forever trying to hook up our first DVD player to the TV.
