Warning: That "real wood" IKEA shelf I bought is a lie

I grabbed a $60 shelf last week that claimed to be solid pine but it's actually particle board with a thin veneer. The second I put my coffee mug on it, the top layer bubbled up like a bad sunburn. Has anyone else gotten tricked by those fancy-sounding product descriptions?

Coffee mug? On a $60 shelf? You're a braver person than me, I won't risk putting more than a paperback on mine after that. The bubble trick is how they get you to buy another one next year.
