Passed on a mechanical keyboard for a cheap membrane one back in 2012
I was building my first gaming PC in Austin and had $50 left for a keyboard, so I grabbed a $15 Dell membrane instead of saving up for a mechanical. That thing lasted 8 years through spilled soda and daily use before the spacebar finally gave out. Anyone else regret not spending a bit more early on?

Did you mean 2012 or was it really that long since mechanical keyboards got popular?

Oh man, you're not wrong to be suspicious. Mechanical keyboards didn't just explode in popularity in 2012. They were already a big deal in gaming and typing circles way before that. Corsair and Razer were pushing their mechanical gaming boards hard around 2010 or so. And the whole Cherry MX switch thing? That goes back to the 80s. 2012 was more like when they started showing up at Best Buy and becoming a mainstream thing, but enthusiasts had them for years already.
