Had a week where every single egg was a double yolker
I usually get maybe 2 double yolk eggs a month from my flock of 6, but last week I cracked open 12 eggs in a row and every single one had two yolks in it. Did I just get lucky or is this something that happens when your hens are all young and just starting to lay?

Did your friend have the same thing happen with their young hens? I had a buddy who got like 15 double yolkers in a row from his new layers last spring, and he swore it was just because they were all starting to lay at once.

Yeah that's pretty much what happened with me. I had a batch of pullets start laying last March and the first two weeks I was getting double yolks out of almost every egg. It was a pain because they didn't fit in my regular cartons and I had to use the bigger ones. One of my old hens that was already laying normal eggs would crack one open and it was just a regular size yolk, nothing special. But the young ones kept popping out these huge ones for maybe two or three weeks before they settled down. I think it's their bodies just figuring out the whole system, like the comment said. After that first month, everything went back to normal.

Actually it happens more with young hens, not just starting to lay but still sorting out their reproductive system.
