The trail marker at mile 17 on the Lost Coast Trail is completely wrong

It points you inland when you actually need to keep going north along the beach for another half mile. Has anyone else run into this and know if it's a permanent mistake or just recent vandalism?

Honestly, is that marker really a big deal? You can see the beach right there, so just follow the coastline. I've gotten turned around there before and it only cost me like ten minutes. Maybe just bring a map next time?
