Serious question, my $400 shipping quote doubled at pickup and I want to know why
Last Thursday I had a guy lined up to move a Corolla from Tucson to Denver for $400 flat, booked it through one of those online sites with the instant quote. When the driver showed up he walked around the car, said the tires were too worn to load, and suddenly it was $800 or no deal. I paid it because I was moving out that weekend, but a coworker said the same thing happened to her brother in Reno. Was I just a sucker, or is this just how these brokers work? Would love to hear how you all lock in a price that actually holds.

Denver here, and my quote went from $550 to $900 when the guy claimed my car had a "bad battery" at pickup, so yeah, this seems to just be their move.
