Saw 14 trucks stacked at a yard outside Amarillo and now I get why my quote was so cheap
Drove past a broker lot off I-40 near Amarillo last month and counted 14 car haulers just sitting there waiting for loads. My $650 quote from Dallas to Phoenix suddenly made sense, they were desperate to fill trucks going west. Everyone told me to just pick the cheapest bid but seeing that lot made me realize those lowball brokers are just gambling on finding a backhaul. Has anyone actually had a cheap broker come through on time, or did you all get burned like I almost did?

Man, that lot sounds like a reality check on wheels. I read a piece a while back about how these brokers work, and the whole game is they sell your spot to whoever bites, then hunt for a driver who wants that route. If nobody wants it, your car sits. I knew a guy who shipped a truck from Houston to Denver on a cheap bid and it showed up nine days late with a cracked mirror and nobody would own up to it. Cheap quotes are basically a bet that the broker finds a backhaul before you start calling and yelling. Sometimes it works, but you are rolling dice with your own car. Pay a bit more to someone who actually has the truck, that is the only way I would do it.
