Found out car carriers can only fit 9 cars per truck, and my jaw dropped at the math
Honestly I was killing time on a broker site reading their FAQ page and it said most open carriers max out at 9 or 10 vehicles depending on the truck. I always pictured these things like a giant parking garage on wheels, like 20 cars stacked up, so 9 felt way off to me. Then it clicked why my quote from Dallas to Chicago jumped from $850 to $1,200 when I called back two weeks later on the same route. If one truck holds that few cars and fuel is what it is right now, the per car cost has to move around a lot. I also learned the driver has to plan stops around state lines for permits and it can only drive so many hours, which is why the pickup window is always 3 to 5 days instead of a firm date. Ngl this made me way less annoyed at the dispatcher who kept pushing my window back. Has anyone else gotten a quote that changed a few hundred bucks just based on timing, and did you wait it out or just book it?
