That cheap torque wrench from Harbor Freight finally bit me after 5 years
I've been using the $20 Pittsburgh torque wrench for years on lug nuts, figured it was close enough. Last week I did a brake job on my buddy's F-150 and torqued the caliper bracket bolts to spec, one of them backed out on the highway two days later. Checked the wrench against a Snap-On digital unit at the shop in Austin, it was off by 14 foot-pounds at 80. I know the cheap tools work for a lot of stuff, but for anything safety related I'm spending the extra money now. Anyone else had a budget tool fail at the worst possible time?
