That job at the Chevy dealer in Tulsa changed my mind about using epoxy primer on aluminum
I was at a collision shop in Tulsa a few years back. We had this Silverado with a cracked aluminum hood. Senior guy there insisted we use a self-etching primer first, said epoxy would peel off over time. I always thought epoxy was the way to go for everything. He showed me a hood they did two years prior with just epoxy, and it was bubbling bad. Now I'm torn. Is self-etch really necessary on aluminum, or was that a bad batch of epoxy? What do you guys do?

Honestly, my buddy swore by self-etching after his epoxy job flaked off his boat trailer.
