Update: my 2003 Skidoo MXZ finally started on the 4th pull after I figured out everyone floods them wrong
I picked up this sled for $900 off a guy in Duluth back in October and it has been fighting me every cold morning since. Turns out half the guys I ride with pump the primer 5 or 6 times before pulling, which just floods the thing and soaks the plug. I tried 2 pumps, full choke, and it fired up on the 4th pull at 8 degrees last Saturday. The primer is for pushing fuel into dry lines, not for topping off a bowl that is already full. Anyone else run into this with the older Rotax motors, or am I just lucky so far?
You sure it was the primer count and not just that the motor finally warmed up enough to cooperate? I mean, 8 degrees is cold enough that your first three pulls could've been fighting stiff rings and thick oil no matter how many times you pumped it. My uncle's old 583 would start on pull two at 30 degrees and take six pulls at zero with the exact same routine every time. Maybe the fourth pull was just when things loosened up. Two pumps sounds fine but I wouldn't hang my hat on it being some magic number yet, give it a few more cold mornings before you declare victory.
