Rant: my sled ate its own belt 12 miles from the truck in Fairbanks
Three years back I was riding the trails north of Fairbanks with my brother and his old Skandic, about 12 miles out, when my machine lost all power and started smoking under the hood. Pulled the panel and the belt was shredded into what looked like black spaghetti, wrapped tight around the clutch. Here is the hack I wish I knew then: I keep a spare belt zip tied inside the hood now, and I wrap it around my waist when I ride deep, because nobody wants to walk out in -20. My brother used his belt tool and a wrench to get the mess off in maybe 15 minutes once we got the clutch to open. Cost me $85 for a spare belt back then, way cheaper than the tow we almost had to call. So what do you all do for trailside belt swaps, do you carry a puller or just muscle it off?
