I had to pick between a cheap tracker and a good mount for my first deep sky photo

Last month I had $400 to spend and it came down to a $300 star tracker or putting it all into a solid equatorial mount. I went with the tracker to save cash, but man, the setup time killed me. I spent 2 hours just getting polar alignment right in my backyard, only to have it drift after 30 minutes. The shot of the Orion Nebula came out blurry and I lost a whole night. Has anyone else tried starting with a tracker and wished they just saved up for the proper mount instead?

Cheap shortcuts always cost more time later.

Totally. My buddy tried to skip testing his code last week. Spent all weekend fixing it, just like johns18 said. Brutal.

Ugh, my tracker was a total waste of time too.
