I burned dinner for 6 years because I trusted the recipe, not my oven

Last month I moved to Austin and finally got a real oven thermometer for $7 at the hardware store. My old oven was 40 degrees cooler than the dial said, so every recipe that said 350 was actually cooking at 310. I thought I was just bad at cooking, turns out I was baking cookies at the wrong temp the whole time. One probe in the rack changed everything. Has anyone else discovered their oven was quietly lying to them for years?

Used to blame my own cooking, now it's clear the oven was the one with cold feet.
