The dig site map they gave us was 30 years out of date, found that out the hard way
Last month I volunteered for a survey out near a known mound site in Ohio and we spent three full days digging test pits where the map showed a buried wall line, turned out it was a old farm road from the 1970s. The actual feature we were chasing was 400 meters south under a patch of invasive buckthorn that nobody bothered to check. Has anyone else dealt with fieldwork where the original notes or maps were just flat wrong, and how do you even trust the next step after that?
