PSA: Do not lean over the barrier rope at the Mesa Verde cliff dwelling, I found out why
Went to Mesa Verde two summers ago and got way too close to the edge trying to get a pic of the 12th century stone rooms. A ranger named Dave tapped my shoulder and just pointed down at the 600 foot drop with this dead serious face, didn't say a word. I looked and my knees went weak. Now I stand behind the rope like it's a force field and I take pics with my arm fully stretched out. Anyone else have a site where a ranger silently scared you straight?

That ranger Dave sounds like he's seen some things... I had a similar moment at the Grand Canyon where I was doing that dumb "sit on the ledge for the gram" pose and a lady just casually said "people die here every year doing that." I laughed it off for like two seconds until I looked down and realized my hands were sweating so bad I almost slipped. Now I do the same arm stretch thing you do, phone out as far as it goes and my feet planted like a statue.
