Took me 4 days to figure out why my ropes kept slipping on wet maple

Tried everything from different knots to new rope, but it turned out the bark was just too smooth and slick after rain, so I started using a triple wrap around the trunk before locking off, has anyone else dealt with this or is it just a northern thing?

Did you try scoring the bark a bit before wrapping, or does that mess with the tree too much?
