My first boss told me to always underbid big oak removals in the fall
He said the leaves would hide the rot and you could get away with a lower price. I tried it on a job in Springfield about 15 years ago. The tree was hollow as a drum and took twice as long to drop safely. I lost money and learned a hard lesson about trusting what you can see, not the season. Anyone else have an old piece of advice that backfired on them?

My mechanic said used parts are fine, but that gamble cost me a grand last year.

My uncle's "measure once, cut twice" mantra and @alexlewis's used parts story are in the same hall of fame.
