A guy at the flea market in Ohio swore by the hair dryer trick on a dead NES, I laughed in his face, guess who feels dumb now
Bought a dirty NES at a flea market outside Columbus for $15, it powered on but the screen was just a gray blinking mess. Some older guy with a card table full of controllers said to unplug it, pop out the game, and blast the cartridge slot with a hair dryer on low for about two minutes. I figured he was messing with me but tried it anyway since the thing was already junk to me. Ten minutes later Blinking Light Win or whatever it's called, and Super Mario 3 booted on the first try. Does the heat actually do something to the pins or did I just get lucky with reseating it?
