The anime convention in Columbus had a food court that changed my whole con plan

I went to the big anime con in Columbus last month and noticed the food court was actually worth hitting. Not the $14 airport-quality chicken strips either. There was this little bento stand run by a grandma who clearly watches more seasonal shows than I do. She had a sign up listing which anime each meal was inspired by, and the curry rice she tied to Frieren was legit. I grabbed the one from Dungeon Meshi and it came with a mini recipe card. Maybe it's just me but I always skip con food because it's overpriced and sad. This time I actually planned my lunch around it and it saved me from the hangry meltdown I usually have by hour 6. Has anyone else found a decent spot to eat at a con instead of the usual convention center garbage?

Ugh, yes! That grandma stand is the real MVP. I found a takoyaki spot at a con once that had a whole One Piece menu and I swear the octopus was fresh. It totally changed my vibe for the rest of the day. Most con food is a scam but those little hidden gems are worth hunting down. I get so hangry by hour 4, I almost cried over a $10 pretzel last year. Glad I'm not the only one who plans meals around the good stuff now.

The takoyaki spot with the full One Piece menu sounds amazing, and now I'm kinda jealous... but it proves that the side vendors really know what's up. Those little stands run by people who actually care about the food always beat out the big chains. It makes me wonder why more cons don't push that kind of thing, cause a good meal really does fix your whole day. I had a similar thing happen with a crepe place at a smaller con once and I still think about that thing. Now I always scope out the food court online before I even pick which panels to hit.
