Vent: my 2009 MacBook's swollen battery almost torched my desk in Denver last Tuesday
I was typing away around 2pm when the trackpad suddenly popped up like a bubble and the whole thing got too hot to touch, so I grabbed it off the desk fast. Took it to a shop on Broadway and the guy said the cell had been swelling for months and I was lucky it didn't split open on my lap. Replaced it with a $28 third party pack and honestly it runs fine, which makes me mad that I put it off for so long thinking I needed a new laptop. Point is, if your old machine's case starts bulging or the lid won't sit flat, that is a fire waiting to happen and not a cosmetic thing. Has anyone here pulled a swollen cell out themselves, or am I the only one dumb enough to ignore it for a full year?
