Old ThinkPad battery swelled up and I just kept using it
Had my T430 sitting on my desk at home last Tuesday when I noticed the trackpad was popping up. Popped the battery out and the thing looked like a puffed up pillow. Everyone online says to stop using it immediately and recycle it, but I'd just find it hard to find a genuine replacement for under $50. So I trimmed the plastic casing off the swollen cell, taped it back in with electrical tape, and it's been running fine for 3 weeks now. I know it's risky but has anyone else just bodged a swollen battery back into service instead of trashing the whole laptop?

Heard my buddy did the same thing with his X230, taped it all up and it worked for like a month before the battery started hissing one night. He chucked it out the window and it popped like a firecracker in the yard.

Gotta disagree, most tape jobs hold up fine if you do it right.
