My 2009 MacBook battery went from 40 minutes to 3 hours after I cleaned the charging port with a toothpick
I was ready to buy a new battery for my 2009 MacBook Pro because it only lasted 40 minutes on a charge. Last week I shined a light in the Magsafe port and saw dark gunk packed in there. I dug it out with a toothpick and a little isopropyl alcohol, and now I get close to 3 hours again. Has anyone else had a charging port just stop making good contact without any visible damage?
Are you sure the battery itself is fine though, or did reseating the plug just reset the charging circuit? Dirty contacts usually cause slow charging, not a shorter runtime once unplugged.
