I finally got my 2008 iMac to boot off an SSD, and the speed jump blew my mind
So I've been messing with this old 2008 iMac I got for free from a guy on Craigslist in Sacramento. It had the original 320GB spinning drive and would take like 4 minutes just to get to the desktop. I almost gave up and used it as a monitor. Last weekend I finally cracked it open, which was a pain because of those suction cups on the glass, and swapped in a cheap 240GB SSD I had lying around. Boot time went from around 4 minutes down to about 25 seconds. I literally sat there and restarted it three times just to make sure I wasn't seeing things. The fans still sound like a jet engine, but it runs GarageBand and old Photoshop just fine now. Anyone else brought back a Core 2 Duo machine from the dead like this?
