Update: I was souping my film for 8 minutes and wondering why the grain looked like sand
For maybe two years I ran Tri-X through my old Nikon FM2 and could not figure out why my prints at the shop in Portland always looked so rough. Last month a guy at the counter asked what temp my developer was, and I admitted I never checked it, just went by feel. Turns out my kitchen tap runs about 78 degrees, so I was basically cooking the grain the whole time. Bought a $12 thermometer and dropped my soup time to 6 minutes at 68, and the negs look way smoother already. How much do you all fuss over temps, or am I the last one to get a thermometer?
