A guy at the camera shop in Boise told me to stop babying my film, so I stopped
I was in Boise last month and stopped by a little camera shop to kill time while my wife was shopping. The owner saw me pull a roll of film out of my jacket pocket and told me to quit treating it like eggs, because heat and a couple of x-rays won't kill it like people online say. He said he has shipped exposed rolls through the mail for 20 years and never lost one. I had been keeping my film in a fridge at home and refusing to fly with it, which honestly kept me from shooting a lot. So what is your travel setup for film, do you carry it on or check it, and has anyone actually had a roll ruined by a scanner?
Watched a buddy shoot a whole trip on film he carried in his backpack through three airports and every roll came back fine, not one scan issue. He just kept it in his carry on and let the bag guys hand check it when he asked, which only takes an extra minute. The stories about scanners wrecking film are mostly ancient history from the pre 2000s machines.
