Apprentice asked why I still use dial indicators over digital

Heard a kid at the IA renewal class in Phoenix say digital calipers make dials obsolete, but on a wet ramp with greasy fingers, that needle is still easier to read without wiping the screen. Has anyone else seen digital tools fail right when you need a quick runout check?
