Our crew's quoting software glitched and we bid a deck at half cost
Last Tuesday my estimator ran a new AI-based material takeoff program on a 600 square foot composite deck job, and it quietly subtracted the fastener and flashing quantities. We won the bid, then realized the numbers were off by about $1,400 when I checked the printout against the supplier invoice. Has anyone else had an AI tool fail in a way that was easy to miss until the money side surfaced?
Quietly subtracted the fastener and flashing" is putting it nicely. My software once "forgot" to add the railing posts entirely, so we bid a job that would have required us to build stairs out of hopes and dreams. At least your $1,400 mistake got caught before the concrete set, mine got discovered after the client asked where the handrail was supposed to go.
