6 months of using AI for medical coding and my backlog dropped 80%
Started a small billing practice in Austin last October. Got behind on claims by about 3 weeks every month. Tried one of those AI coding assistants that reads the doctor's notes and suggests codes. Took me 6 months to trust it fully. Now my turnaround is 48 hours instead of 3 weeks. The biggest change was how it handles the messy notes with abbreviations. I still double check the tricky ones, but it cut my daily review from 4 hours to 45 minutes. Anyone else using these tools and seen similar drops? Or is it just the easy claims it's catching?

The real win here might be catching the "messy" stuff BEFORE it becomes a denial problem. Most practices lose money on claims that get kicked back, not on slow processing. That 3 week backlog probably hid a bunch of coding errors that were costing you more than the delay. If the AI is catching those patterns, the 80% drop is just the tip of the iceberg.
