Tried geocaching at an abandoned mine site, ended up chasing a ghost goat for 2 hours
So last Saturday I drove out to the old Rattlesnake Mine off Route 66 in Arizona, thinking I'd grab some cool photos of the rusty headframe and maybe find a geocache someone hid nearby. I've done this like 13 times, usually pretty chill. But this time I spotted something white moving between the collapsed sheds. My brain said 'abandoned sheep?' but my heart said 'secret albino deer!' I followed it for what felt like forever, climbing over Tailings piles and through waist-high weeds. Turns out it was a goat, not even wild, just some rancher's escape artist with a bell on. It led me straight to an old dynamite box with a geocache log inside from 2011. No way I was signing that after a goat pranked me into a workout. Has anyone else had a wild animal send them on a totally pointless but awesome side quest at an abandoned place? Because I need to know I'm not the only one who falls for that.
