A stranger at an old grain mill made me rethink why I even explore
I was snapping photos of this collapsed elevator in eastern Montana when some retired farmer pulled up and asked if I was "looking for ghosts or just the past." He told me he used to work there in the 70s and pointed out which silo had the best acoustics for yelling, and it hit me that I never think about the people who used these places, only the decay. Anyone else go through phases where you focus too much on the structure and forget the human side that made it worth photographing?
