Stopped by a retro diner in Ohio and their 1950s menu had prices that made me do a double take
A burger was 35 cents back then but now that same place charges $14 for the same thing, so was the 50s actually cheaper or does inflation just hit harder on nostalgia?

Consider how much less you paid for rent in the 50s versus now, that's the real sticker shock.

Hard pass on paying $14 for a burger that used to cost pocket change. My grandpa probably drove his car for a month on what that burger costs now. Funny how inflation never seems to hit the stuff people actually need, just the stuff we used to enjoy. Take this with a grain of salt, but that diner is probably paying for the "nostalgia tax" more than the actual burger costs. 35 cents back then is like $4 today according to some calculators I've seen, so $14 is definitely the owner having some fun with us. Your mileage may vary but I'd say skip the burger and grab a coffee just to sit in the atmosphere instead.
