When workers have control over means of production sufficient to satisfy their needs and wants there would be little need for a political party. Most social needs would be satisfied through the workplace and not the political govt, except that the political govt. might have to provide some coordination and oversight for example on environmental concerns and other exercises of police power.

Perhaps there will be political parties after workers are in collective control of means of production I just don't at this point see that it would be something at this point to strive for.
Questions that come to mind are:
Would trying to create a political party at this point help us in advocating collective worker control of means of production?
Would a new political party or any political party be required to get Congress to start establishing workplace units under collective worker control?
At this point I think that the answer to both of these questions is no. We would do far better I believe to first start working on building a consensus in the general population for collective worker control. There isn't even consensus on the left that this is the prime requirement of a new society. To me, trying to start a new political party without such consensus would be a pointless waste of time, energy and resources.
