These days…, of 2009, We hear much Play with terms...Are we in a Depression? No, say the pundits.., a Recession is a more accurate description… What’s the difference?
A Depression is when a Recession gets worse.. .A matter of degree which is simply one more step toward degrading impoverishment.., no matter how the apologists for capitalism strain to make an exploitative system appear to be in the interests of our majority electorate working class.
But, then again, too many of the working class pretend they are not of the working class. ..., and give themselves an economic status which is termed "Middle" class. Fact is. .a "middle class' must be packaged with an "Upper" class.., and a "Lower" class. .to make phony distinctions of our class divided society.., as is reinforced everyday in the news media and in other avenue of Capitalist propaganda.
Fact is fact. If you are of the working class..., and have a relatively good income, you can disguise your true CLASS status under capitalism with the term, "Middle" class, which is an income distinction which does not remove you from the assembly line, nor from the job you may hold in which you are a worker, your role as LABOR being of the working class...no other way to define it. More to the point... Well paid workers..., fairly well paid workers..., poorly paid workers..., minimally paid workers...ALL of the WORKING CLASS.
Small store owners, private construction jobbers, who own their own businesses, are the end line users of all corporate materials needed in their small businesses..., and are no better in charge of their lives in all the decisions which are being made today in the governments efforts to SAVE the SYSTEM..., than are the rest of the people of the working class..
The only two classes which are distinctive in any capitalist system are "Worker" and "Capitalist." Professional workers are just that. No voice and vote along with working colleagues to decide HOW our industries can be used to maintain a society of peace and prosperity..., leaves such people of intellectual and general labor in the same economic class, regardless of income differentials.
Regardless of whether the industries are used by private owners, such as the Capitalist class here in our nation, or by the State, as is the Cuban misfortune..., or as a mixed State/Private system in China..., the use of the commodity production process establishes the worker-owner class differences in the people who are involved..., and all societies today are under the aegis of commodity production...
Such are the economic conditions in our nation..., in Cuba, Mexico, China, Japan, and anywhere else where commodity production is the essential economic method for production of goods and services for market consumption, the capitalist propagandists misinformation to the contrary...
Too many of our class continue with the pretense…, but the everyday realities of how far removed are We, the People, from the seats of political and corporate power is a very uncomfortable realization for all of us.
An Economic Democracy is the only direction for us if we are to become truly free and have a direct voice and vote in all matters that affect our lives. We can all work toward this noble end in our own neighborhoods and work places, where we can share our thoughts of a better way with friends, neighbors and working colleague,, and begin to open up an awareness their own electoral empowerment when used to move toward a better society for ourselves and our kids and theirs…
Like chicken soup, it can’t hurt! And it may just start a mind to think about it. That’s THE start!
