Hi everybody! I just got here 5 minutes ago (literaly), but this stuff is interesting....
I kinda think that you CAN have both Democracy and Capitalism at the same time.
I've poked briefly into the minds of both Karl Marx and Adam Smith this last year at school. I think what we need is LESS "government" control. I like the notion of supply & demand controling things --- NOT the government lobbying & support of the big business. I think the market can predict & adapt to changes faster than "people in charge" could. The trouble we're in with what I like to call the "Global Economic Meltdown" was caused by the government looking the other way when the stockholders cried out for more profit! (to me, money in the POLITICIANS pockets is the problem here. Not the failure of Capitalism). It was supplemented by greedy Americans who spend more money than they make!!! If people did not exceed their actual limitations, then the credit card companies would be quietly making their profit in a controlled and continuous way.
We need a change in the way we do business, no doubt. But I am still an advocate for Capitalism. Humans LIKE to feel good about what they are doing. We NEED that little pat on the back from our peers, to know we're doing okay.
And I'm still against Democracy. Why do people throw that word around - as if they know what it means!!!
There are NO Democracies in the world today, that I am aware of. And the intelligent men who lived in one swore that it was the most horrible form of government ever conceived by man!!! I would revolt at the notion of Democracy. (Too many uninformed masses for me to be comfy with them controling MY life!)
We need revolution.
Just make sure you're making it better, not worse.
And it could REALLY get worse than this. Don't doubt that.

This country & this government are still messed up - but it's still the best place - and the best system - in the world today....
Even as messed up as it is - this is the safest, freest, most flexible place here.
