FALMOUTH- Last June, Paul Rifkin of Cotuit, an anti-war activist who is the owner of Moonakiss Cafe, organized a debate offering pro and con views on the Iraq War that drew more than 150 people to Falmouth Public Library.
Later this month, Mr. Rifkin hopes to repeat that success by organizing a debate on the Presidential election.
The debate is scheduled for Thursday, October 16, from 7 to 9 PM in the Hermann Meeting Room on the lower level of Falmouth Public Library at 300 Main Street.
There will be six political platforms represented at the debate. Troy BG Clarkson of North Hill Drive, North Falmouth, a former Falmouth selectman who is now the administrator of Plymouth County, will represent the Republican Party.
Levi C. Adams of Nickerson Street, Teaticket, who was the Falmouth coordinator of the campaign of Deval Patrick and is involved with Habitat of Humanity among other organizations, will represent the Democratic Party.
George Phillies of Worcester, who is a leader of the Massachusetts Libertarian Party, will represent the Libertarian Party, and Peter L. Waasdorp Jr. of Beccles Road, Falmouth, a member of the Falmouth Conservation Commission, will represent the Green/Rainbow Party.
Walter Petrovich of East Falmouth and New Jersey will represent a party called People for a New Society.
Mr. Rifkin also plans to have an empty seat at the debate, representing “the party of apathy,” a group that Mr. Rifkin says includes a large percentage of Americans.
Deborah Siegal of Friends Way, West Falmouth, former president of the League of Women Voters of Falmouth, will moderate the debate.
Much of the debate will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions of the panelists.
The sponsors of the debate are The Falmouth Enterprise and the League of Women Voters of Falmouth.
