Hello, Laurie,
In fact, the normal operation of capitalism is the root cause of just about every problem humankind faces. Thus, the only way to solve our problems is to replace capitalism with a Cooperative System (i.e. democratic socialism.) Simply electing "better people" is not the answer, because the problem is not people, it's the way the system, itself, operates. Even people who are smarter, more insightful, or more compassionate can't make much difference. Indeed, even someone as smart, insightful, and compassionate as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose birthday we celebrate today, began to realize near the end of his life that our problems are *systemic* in nature, and thus require a *systemic* solution. Capitalism, he realized, was an even bigger, and more fundamental problem, than race.
In addition to the web site for People For a New Society, I invite you to visit 'People For a Cooperative Society' for further detailed explanation, examples, and a wealth of resources. See, in particular, our section "Learn the Issues."
Best of luck to PFANS on its new site.
