Personal Attacks in Blog Entries
I feel that Curtis Harris has gone beyond the bounds of reasonable discourse in calling me a fake and a fraud in his blog and comments posted to the Appraisal Group. If you haven't seen it, look at the blog entry entitled Commercial Appraiser: Sales Comparison Adjustment Grid.
I don't know Mr. Harris, I have never seen any of his work, and he has never seen any of my work. I don't have an opinion about the quality of his work, although based on his style of writing and name calling, I certainly have an opinion on his character. His calling me a fake and a fraud is baseless, slanderous, and seems to stem solely from my having earned the MAI designation. His website is filled with derogatory comments about the Appraisal Institute and its members, and he seems to be convinced that any members of the AI are untrustworthy. That's a pretty broad view to have, and not justified.
Prior to entering the appraisal profession, I earned an MBA with a concentration in Finance and Real Estate from the University of Texas. My thesis was entitled "The Use of Matched Pairs Analysis in Appraisal". I've worked as a commercial appraiser since 1990, and received the MAI designation in 1995. I have been active in my chapter, and served on multiple committees on the local and regional levels.
Are there disreputable designated appraisers? Certainly, and when I served on the Ethics Committee, we investigated them and enforced compliance with USPAP. I wouldn't have it otherwise. But every appraiser was given a fair chance for civil discourse in every hearing, and all the evidence was there for all to see.
He also uses the tactic of posting under other names while not signed in to give the impression others support him. That's crap.
We should all be professionals here. Let's eliminate the personal attacks and gross generalizations.
What do you think? I'm certain Mr. Harris will let me know his thoughts - what about you?
Respectfully,
Tim Bradley, MAI and CCIM

"Are there disreputable designated appraisers? Certainly, and when I served on the Ethics Committee, we investigated them and enforced compliance with USPAP."
Another cover up or lie! Why is he trying to "ENFORCE COMPLIANCE WITH USPAP" that is a function of the state in which the appraiser is licenced. Further,it is the responsibility of every appraiser to report USPAP violations to that state, not cover them up in one of their private committees. By the way the real name of their commettie is "PROFESSIONAL ETHICS AND CONSUELING" NOT ENFORCEMENT.
P.S.
Tim Brady, YOU ARE A LIER AND A FRAUD! I have never attacked you personally, every comment I have made was directed at your Profession Ineptitude. Can you be that stupit that you do not know the difference?
