I don't know how worried a casual caller should be, but there is no need to take unnecessary risk. In my house, we use speaker phones and wired headsets for long calls. Always have.

I happen to believe medicine is a source of risk. For instance, I try to minimize xrays. Think about it -- they put a lead vest on your chest, everyone runs out of the room, and they blast that thing at your head.

It's all about managing risk.
