I'm a former Plaistow resident living "In Exile" in East Hampstead. Just because I run the Plaistow Crier, doesn't mean I actually live there. Heaven forbid! Mean people have been running Plaistow for years and years. All the sensible people are trying to leave. So how come no one has asked me if I want "MY" Hampstead water flowing over the town line into Atkinson? Why are Hampstead residents being so quiet? You can hear a pin drop over here when anyone mentions the name Atkinson and the HAWC. This must be a one-way deal and Hampstead's going to be the big winner. There are ways to solve problems like this in Governor Lynch's "Progressive" New Hampshire. Put a meter on the pipe at the Atkinson/Hampstead town line. Every time a gallon of water moves from one town to the other then the HWAC gets taxed by the source town and the State of NH. The state's money goes to education and the money that goes to the source town gets placed in a "Special" fund to help those folks whose wells run dry. Let me and all the other HAWC customers pay a premium every time foreign water is imported into our town. This how the American Way works these days, isn't it? Then at least the town of Atkinson has a stake in the deal, not just Hampstead and the HAWC. Now there are only two other thing to considers. Is linking the two towns' water systems a good idea? Can the aquifers really take it or is this just a NH DES myth. Second issue is going to be much tougher to solve. How are we going to get rid of that "wet blanket" from Danville. If people like him were running the show during our colonial days, we'd all still be bowing and courtseying to the King and Queen of England.
