I agree, the pictures came out fine, but where were you focusing? I'd say you somehow focused on the left leg, even though it is all but concealed by the right leg. The left leg is visible in the shot, at the top of the picture, and shows the pantyhose clearly. In contrast, the right leg, which is really the leg that is shown, only shows the pantyhose at the shin and back of the calf. The side of the calf, where the leg is closest to the camera, is just barely out of focus. The picture works anyway because it is the shin and back of the calf that has to contrast with the background, and they stayed within the depth of field.

I realize you probably used the camera's automatic settings, but I suspect the camera used a wider aperture than your Mavica, probably f2.0 or f2.8.
