I agree about not using digital zoom. Using your camera's highest or finest resolution will certainly help; maximizing OPTICAL zoom was probably the main factor. Lighting was clearly aided by sunlight shining through a window, which may have caused Lorelei's Mavica to use a smaller aperture, which would increase depth of field, making a greater range of objects appear relatively focused. Bear in mind that a too small aperture will increase diffusion, blurring the entire picture. However, I doubt a Mavica can use an aperture too small. I'm not familiar with them but I suspect its smallest aperture would be f8.0 or f11, which I also suspect was used for that shot.

Of course, if you're using a smaller aperture, that will have an effect on exposure which you might need to compensate for by using slower shutter speeds, higher ISO settings and/or increased lighting.
