Tape gags

Hello, I'm new. I have a question about tape gags, but first I might actually spoil some movies, so if you haven't seen "Camp Blood" or "A Life Less Ordinary", then you probably shouldn't read the rest.

Okay, so people who have seen a life less ordinary with Cameron Diaz will remember the two bondage scenes. You'll recall the latter scene with her tied to a chair with orange ropes gagged with duct tape. Anyone that has seen this remembers how to the tape didn't obscure her lips, but it showed them. And the tape appeared to stick on pretty well too.

Now, for camp blood, well just look at the image I'm attaching and it speaks for itself. Do I have to buy a specific brand, or do something besides simply applying it to my partner's lips to get this effect? I would like some more advice on this.

P.S. I'm a fan of gags that cover the mouth, like OTM and OTN gags as well. :)
