Hi Maggie,
This message was added when we only allowed the
option of password protecting both posting and
reading. Because no one could access the messages
without logging in, this stopped bots from accessing
the message so the addresses were safe.
When we started allowing forums to be password
protected for posting but not reading, this meant
that the messages were no longer protected and
neither were the email addresses.
You are correct that in your case where the forum
is being password protected only for posting that
the email address is not safe. That message is erroneous
and I will make sure to remove it.
If you select to password protect reading as well,
then the message is still true, the email address is
still safe.
